LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - In 2015, 28 percent of Leon County first-graders were identified as overweight or obese, and figures were even higher for third-graders and sixth-graders.
In honor of Family First Week, community members are getting together Monday evening to discuss the childhood obesity epidemic in Leon County.
Monday night's gathering will include educators, business folks and parents so everyone can talk about their role in addressing this crisis
Organizers say education is the key when it comes to child obesity and spreading the word about programs that are available to help combat it.
Another point organizers make is that we need to make culture of health the emphasis.
