CLEARWATER, Fla. (ABC News) - A new case in central Florida is testing the "stand your ground" law."
The confrontation started as an argument over a handicapped parking space and escalated to a deadly shooting.
ABC's Maggie Rulli has the latest.
Protestors demanding justice for Markeis McGlockton rallied outside the store where the 28-year-old father of three was shot and killed over a parking space.
The man who pulled the trigger - not charged by Florida police - who call it an example of the state's so-called "stand your ground" law that gives Floridians the right to protect themselves if they feel threatened.
The entire incident was captured on surveillance video. In it we see McGlockton's girlfriend - Brittany Jacobs - get approached by 47-year-old Michael Drejka . She says he told her that she had illegally parked in a handicap spot.
McGlockton runs over and pushes Drejka to the ground
That's when Drejka fights back, taking out a gun, shooting and killing glockton
Police say this shooting was self defense.
The store owner says he's had to call the cops on Drejka for confronting other customers before.
Protestors say they won't stop fighting until the law is changed. Since it was first enacted in Florida in 2005, more than two dozen states have adopted some form of the law.
This isn't the first time Florida's "stand your ground law" has made headlines. It was also used as the defense argument for former neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who killed unarmed 17-yr-old Trayvon Martin in 2012. The shooting, and Zimmerman's acquittal, sparked national outrage.
