TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--The City of Tallahassee is searching for five people to fill five leadership positions.

The reasons for the resignations range from retirement to finding new jobs outside of local government.

A nationwide search is now underway. Vacancies include fire chief, police chief, human resources director, airport director and assistant city manager.

"I just feel like at this time, it is the best interest in the city and the department to be able to start a search for a new chief," said Tallahassee Police Chief Dennis Jones.

The City of Tallahassee is hiring. Police Chief Dennis Jones is just one of five leaving the city. His last day on the job is Friday after making the decision to retire. Former Fire Chief Cindy Dick also said goodbye over the summer.

"I'll miss my firefighter family the most," said Dick. "I'll miss my city family the most. I will miss these people."

To find her replacement along with a human resources director and airport director, the city hired recruiter Bob Murray and Associates for $45,000.

"The rationale behind that, is that sometimes people are applying and looking for a job but sometimes there are people who are not looking but might be great candidates," said City of Tallahassee Assistant to the City Manager Michelle Bono.

City leaders say they're getting closer to hiring a new airport director. Interviews should begin over the next several weeks. This after Jay Townsend turned in his resignation to work for a private company. Another open position is assistant city manager.

"It's a little unusual we would have five at the same time but we're committed to finding the best people for the positions. "

Filling all five jobs could take sometime. After all they do a nationwide search, but it all comes down to the city manager who will make the final decisions.
