TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - City of Tallahassee Commissioners are discussing the future of the Community Redevelopment Agency and their relationship with Leon County.
Tallahassee City Commissioners are working with the Leon County Commissioners to shift the focus of the Community Redevelopment Agency from Downtown to Frenchtown.
Leon County Commissioners unanimously supported the transition in their meeting Tuesday and the city is expected to follow suit in approval. The county City leaders have also requested to extend the terms of the agreement from the year 2030 to 2038.
"And yet we've placed so much of our emphasis on our Downtown district that we've almost ignored areas like Frenchtown and South City," said Curtis Richardson, Tallahassee Commissioner. "And other parts of the Southside of Tallahassee. That are in desperate need of development and revitalization."
Both governing bodies are required to agree on the terms. If approved, changes would take effect as early as the fiscal year 2019, with significant financial changes in 2024.
The CRA has the final vote on May 24.
