TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--Tallahassee commissioners approved a $1.3 million settlement for former firefighter Mark DeCarlo who said he was suspended, fired, and retaliated against for blowing the whistle on fire equipment in need of repair.
DeCarlo won his case. The settlement includes the jury verdict for $845,000. Tallahassee City Attorney Lewis Shelley says it also includes the lost front pay, employee benefits, attorney fees and costs for the lengthy litigation. Commissioners voted 4-1.
It will be paid for through risk management funds. Shelley says the city is self-insured for this type of litigation.
