TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee nonprofit received a big boost toward its goal to repair its headquarters.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend has been working out of a temporary location for six months.
Big Brothers Big Sisters needs about $134,000 to fix up the inside and outside of its headquarters so this money gets them very close to that goal.
The community redevelopment agency board voted Thursday to approve the grant.
The building has ceiling damage, mold, and rotting walls. The Tallahassee firm of James Moore and Company, CPA's has been housing the agency free of charge since October.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Director Alva Striplin says the organization raises money to help local children but it's never used funds to help itself.
The organization says it will work to come up with the remainder of the funds needed to repair the site and it's confident the community will help support them financially.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend has been serving the community for 45 years and it's anxious to return to its original location.
