GRENTA, Fla. (WTXL) - Today is new Gretna Police Chief Brian Alexander's first day on the job.
He says 'Batman' has been his nick name and a childhood inspiration that turned him toward a career in law enforcement.
Alexander has served as a criminal investigation supervisor at the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office, and rose to the position in a pool of 16 qualified candidates. Mayor Anthony Baker has said he's confident the new chief will succeed because he is a quote "home grown public servant" who knows the community, and the community knows him.
"I want to establish a relationship with the community starting off with the seniors of the community, church affiliates, and local business owners. Creating a partnership with those entities, so there is a positive spin with law enforcement," said Alexander.
But citizens of Gretna will still need to dial 911 in an emergency. Chief Alexander won't be installing a bat signal anytime soon.
