BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - About 7:00 Monday evening, a Bainbridge resident called police to report that he saw a little girl lying on a walkway, obviously injured, and crying.

The citizen placed the child on a pillow on a porch under an open window in the Hutto McIver Apartments.

Police arrived, and EMS followed shortly to render aid to the 2-year-old child, who had apparently fallen out of the second story window above, according to law enforcement.

Neighbors told police the child's parents were Tiffany Walker and Napoleon Sheffield. They said the dad was at work, but they didn't know where the mother was.  Police went inside the apartment to find a 1-year-old, alone in the apartment in a crib.

Police and EMS took the 2-year-old child to the hospital for treatment of a broken arm, busted lip, and various cuts and scrapes, according to law enforcement.

An officer stayed behind with the younger child, waiting for the Department of Family and Children Services, who took over the care of the 1-year-old.

Bainbridge Public Safety made contact with Tiffany Walker, and informed her that she was being arrested for cruelty to children in the second degree, a felony, misdemeanor possession of marijuana less than one ounce and misdemeanor reckless conduct.

"It's very unfortunate, these children don't choose to be in this world, they are born to a mother and father and it's the parents responsibility to make sure that they're safe and secure," said Investigator Christopher Jordan.

Jordan says Walker left the window open for air to circulate inside.
