TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - One of the parking garages at the Florida Capitol is closed until further notice due to structural damage.
State officials on Friday abruptly closed the 210-space parking garage that serves the Florida Senate. Maggie Mickler, a spokeswoman for the Department of Management Services, said that work is already underway to reinforce the garage.
The garage, which is underneath the Senate office building, was initially built in the 1970s at the same time as the Capitol complex. Senators and staff access the garage through the Senate office basement.
Last week, engineers working for the state told officials that parts of the garage were deteriorating due to water intrusion. The engineers recommended supports be put in place.
Mickler said that temporary parking near the Capitol has been made available to Senate employees.
