LIBERTY COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Crews were at work Wednesday to clean up a fuel spill in Liberty County.

The crash happened at about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday along State Road 12 near Meredith Road.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries, but no one else was hurt when the tanker, hauling jet fuel, overturned.

Shortly after the accident, hazmat crews deployed to start the clean-up process.

Following the roll-over more than 75 hundred gallons of jet fuel were spilled.

Tallahassee's Fire Department staffs hazardous materials technicians who are qualified to respond to these kinds of accidents around the clock.

The team based out of Tallahassee serves 13 surrounding counties including Liberty.

"Our purpose with Tallahassee Regional Team in the state of Florida is to go and stop the hazard," said Johnathan Kimmbrel with the Tallahassee Fire Department. "If there's a leaking tanker and we'll do like I said: We'll stop the leak and contain the leak and then we'll wait for the state of Florida to have somebody come in and do the clean up."

About 5 percent of the calls Tallahassee Fire Department responds to deal with hazardous materials. In this particular spill, the Tallahassee team worked to stop the leak, but long term clean up is the responsibility of the state and will likely be handled by a private contractor.
