LEON Co., Fla. (WTXL) - As warmer seasons start heading to the Big Bend, local produce will start showing up in farmers markets and hopefully, on your table.
Leon County has been working to promote sustainable food practices through their sustainability program since 2008. The program has hosted 4 summits since it's beginning, the most recent in January of 2015.
Robert Mills is the Leon County Director of Resource Stewardship; he joined us on Sunrise to show us how to make a salsa you can grow in your own back yard. See him make the salsa with Anchor Kellie Bartoli and Meteorologist Max Tsaparis in the video.
Below is Mills's recipe for Summertime Salsa.
The Ingredients are as follows:
3 Cups of Tomatoes, Chopped
1/2 med Onion
1 Jalapeño Pepper Finally diced
1 Lime Juiced
1 Lemon Juiced
1/4 Cup cilantro
Salt and Pepper
Optional ingredients:
Mango, peach, Pineapple
Beans
Corn
Garlic
De-seed the peppers then chop and combine all ingredients in a bowl. Serve with chips of your choice.
