TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Meet our Pet of the Week, Betty Lou!
Betty Lou is a Beagle mix with the sweetest eyes.
She's eight years old, but is in good health and is heartworm negative. She's also already been spayed.
Betty Lou came in to the shelter last month as a stray, but staff say she had an owner at some point. She's housebroken and laid back. Betty Lou is gentle on a leash and does well around other dogs, too.
Animal experts say adopting an older dog can be a good option for many because they're usually trained and don't require the patience and extra work of a puppy. It can also help people who are easing into animal ownership for the first time.
To learn more about all of the animals available for adoption, click here or follow the shelter on Facebook.
You can catch our Pet of the Week every Tuesday morning at 6:30 on WTXL Sunrise.
This weekend, Tallahassee Animal Services is taking part in the 20th annual Santa Paws fundraiser. Some shelter dogs will lead the parade, and you can also adopt animals there as well.
The Santa Paws Walk is Saturday, December 12 from 9 a.m. until noon at Lake Ella at the Gazebo.
