Sunday’s Baseball Game Gets Called Due To Rain in the 3rd Inning
Montgomery, Ala. – Sunday’s Florida A&M (1-4) baseball game at Alabama State (3-3) at Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex was called due to rain heading into the bottom of the third inning. They tried to get the game in, but after a 42-minute rain delay, the weather still didn't cooperate. No make up date has been scheduled at this time. Ryan Kennedy had an RBI double and Shane Gordon came through with an RBI single before the game was called.
For the third straight game in the series, FAMU scored first with a run in the top of the first inning. Jared Walker drew a lead of walk and advanced to third as Alec Wong ripped a single past the first baseman. Kennedy then loaded the bases with no outs as he reached on a fielder’s choice. Walker scored from third to make the score 1-0 as Marlon Gibbs grounded into a 6-4-3 double play and Brian Davis then lined out to first to end the Rattler scoring threat.
Alabama State scored six runs with two outs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 6-1 lead. ASU sent 11 batters to the plate with four hits. Cesar Rivera had a three-run double and Waldyvan Estrada recorded a two RBI single in the inning for the Hornets.
Florida A&M cut into the Hornet lead with two runs in the top of the third for a score of 6-3. With the rain steadily falling, Alec Wong walked with one out and scored from first as Kennedy roped an RBI double into the left-center gap. Gibbs followed with a single to left to put runners on the corners before Davis went down swinging for the second out. Shane Gordon’s two out RBI single through the left sided scored Kennedy from third for the second run in the inning.
Next up for the Rattlers is a trip to Macon, GA to face the Mercer Bears for a pair of mid-week games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday’s game is scheduled for a 6:00 PM first pitch and Wednesday’s will be at 4:00 PM.
