October 15 of each year is White Cane Safety Day, proclaimed in 1964 by President Lyndon Johnson. There is a variation of the White Cane Law in every state. FS 316.1301 is the Florida Statue for The White Cane Law. Tallahassee National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is using some events in October to bring awareness to residents, especially motorists, concerning the White Cane Law.

Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. there will be a Meet the Blind Proclamation in the Tallahassee City Commission Chamber, which is on the second floor of City Hall, 300 South Adams Street.

Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the Tallahassee NFB will feature a White Cane Law Awareness Crossing at the intersection of Killearn Center Blvd. and Village Square.

Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. is the White Cane Law Proclamation by Mayor John Marks. It's taking place in the Tallahassee City Hall, 300 South Adams Street.
