TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- The Vietnam Veterans of America Big Bend Chapter hosted its reading of the "Declaration of Independence" on the front steps of the old Florida Capitol.
The day started with instructions on the proper way to salute the flag, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The veterans then read the "Declaration of Independence."
The event recognized how this country began. The event reiterated the veteran's oath to protect and defend the United States of America. A marine veteran explained how he hopes Americans use this day.
Marc Dickieson said," I hope that all Americans everywhere will take a few moments today. Take time away from the hotdogs and hamburgers and sports to reflect upon what the fourth and the birth of our nation means."
The event ended with the Patriotic Guard Riders and a flag line along with the singing of the "Battle Hymn Republic."
