TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- The Tallahassee Police Department parked a patrol vehicle in front of Target, but it's not for safety concerns. The department is trying to raise school supplies for students in need.

"Pack the Patrol Car" started Saturday and runs through August 8th. The department is collecting backpacks, paper, binders, pencils and other school related items.

Officer Cleveland Allen explained that the goal is to stuff the car from top to bottom.

"We are trying to initiate this school supply drive for families in the city of Tallahassee that don't have the means to start their school year off right. We understand that starting the school year off right and educating the kids is vitally important for not only our community but our country," said Officer Allen.

The department wants to stuff at least 200 backpacks with school supplies.
