Tallahassee, Fla. (WTXL)--According to the Center for Disease Control, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States.

That's why board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Angelo Ayar joined us this morning on Sunrise to discuss ways to protect ourselves.

Even in the winter months, Ayar says you should seek the shade, especially between 10:00 a.m and 4:00 p.m. Try to avoid tanning beds and cover up with clothing such as a hat or UV blocking sunglasses.

Lastly use a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher and as always see your physician every year for a professional skin exam

Dr. Ayar is a physician with the Dermatology Specialist of Florida. For more information on his practice, click here
