TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - November 20th is Transgender Remembrance Day.

Monday on Second Cup, Thomas Risk, Minority Aids Coordinator with the Leon County Department of Health and Lola Periwinkle, the Director of FSU Pride Student Union talked about the importance of this day.

Transgender Remembrance Day is an opportunity for communities to come together and remember transgender people, gender-variant individuals and those perceived to be transgender who have been discriminated against or even killed because of hate.

The FSU Pride Student Union, whose mission is to provide services and programs to address the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students at FSU and to increase awareness of issues pertinent to them, is teaming up with the HIV prevention team at the Florida Department of Health in Leon County to recognize these individuals and the importance of this special day to their health and that of the general public.
