TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Empowering teens, that's the main goal for this year's National Teen Summit.
Monday on Second Cup, Renita Dixon with Chair National Hookup of Black Woman talked about The T.O.P (Teens Overcoming Pressure) National Teen Summit
It's being held February 24, 2017 at no cost.
Some of the workshop topics will include: body image, bullying, empowerment, healthy relationships and wellness, college preparation, and leadership development.
The Tallahassee Chapter of NHBW, Inc was founded in 1978 to represent those individuals, organizations and institutions whose goals were to foster and promote economic, social, and educational development of black women, black communities and to maintain a communication network among them.
Within the goals and philosophies of NHBW, the Tallahassee chapter has instituted community outreach programs that are inclusive of all people.
The Teen Summit is an extension of this vision, it is for local boys and girls, especially teenagers, and is geared towards their academic, social and cultural uplift and empowerment.
This is Summit is designed to give our community's youth the tools that will:
- Increase high school graduation rates and educational aspirations
- Promote healthier relationships and lifestyle choices
- Increase higher college enrollment rates and educational aspirations
- Enhance self-esteem and self-confidence
- Improve behavior and interpersonal skills both at home and at school
- Decrease likelihood of initiating drug and alcohol
