TALLAHASSE, Fla. (WTXL)-- Mission San Luis was filled with Spanish soldiers and Apalachee warriors at the park's 17th century military muster.
Colorful pageantry brought the 17th century to life with blackpowder muskets and cannons fired off at the fort.
The event was an opportunity for big bend residents to learn about the history of Mission San Luis.
One re-enactor explained the significance of the battle. "They built up a large palisade around the fort here, they built the fort for protection, and they decided they were going to try and defend it but when they realized they did not have enough soldiers to defend it they ended up burning it all down," said Travis Phillips.
Guests also had the chance to participate in archery lessons and learn how to cook some of the fine cuisine of the time period.
