TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- September is National Preparedness Month, and local leaders are coming together to help get you ready.

Power outages can occur at any time, especially during bad weather. In Tallahassee, most power outages happen after fallen trees as a result of heavy winds and rain.

For residents in the City of Tallahassee, there are several ways you can report a power outage.

You can do so online at talgov.com. Just click "Report a Power Outage." You can also call (850) 891-4YOU.

The city also has a mobile app, DigiTally, that has a power outage reporting feature.

You can also send information, and get updates during an emergency, via Twitter by following @COTNews.

City officials also advise you to be prepared for power outages by having an emergency tool kit filled with water, non-perishable food, a flashlight, a battery powered radio, a first aid kit and any other items that you and your family might need to weather a prolonged power outage.
