TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- The Florida District Knights honored the nation's flag and Pledge of Allegiance Sunday in commemoration with Flag Day.

The ceremony started at noon on the Monroe Street side of the Old Capitol with a color guard presentation of the colors.

The color guard was followed by an explanation of the history of the Pledge of Allegiance.

afterwards participants were asked to share in reciting of the pledge...

organizers of the events said why it's important to celebrate Flag Day.

"I think that it's important for us to celebrate flag day because the flag is the symbol of America. This day is also a remembrance day for the United States army. The army birthday is June fourteenth," said Jim Geuin.

Even though Flag Day is celebrated nationally on June 14th, some participants at Sunday's ceremony say they celebrate the American flag year round.

"The flag committee, we go around town and find distressed American flags that folks forget about. They put them up and because they're busy they forget and we remind them to take them down and put a new flag up or light it properly at night for the respect of the flag," said George Englemark.
