TALLAHASSEE, FL -- Contra Dancing, slightly similar to Square Dancing, will be taking over the Tallahassee Senior Center for a monthly event!

Contra dance is a form of social folk dancing with roots in English country dance. Contra has been danced in New England dance halls for several hundred years and made its way across the U.S. beginning in the 20th century.

A caller teaches each dance and provides prompts throughout the dance, and a live string band provides the music. Newcomers are always welcome and should plan on arriving early for the introductory lesson at 7:15. You do not need to bring a partner. Attendees should wear comfortable clothes and flat, soft-soled shoes.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and $6 for students.
