Canopy Roads Theater Company in association with Poemedy.com presents A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry at the Monticello Opera House. Performances are Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 24 at 2:00 p.m.
There is going to be a post show reception and discussion with members of the cast after every performance. The audience will get a chance to meet the cast and talk about the show.
This week is the 54th anniversary of the Broadway premiere of the show. The original production featured Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee. It was the first play written by an African-American woman ever produced on Broadway.
The play is hugely popular, and is being produced all over the country this year including Boston, Philadelphia, Knoxville, Palm Beach, San Antonio, Houston, just to name a few cities.
The Canopy Roads Theater Company performance features a cast of local performers, many of them have professional acting experience.
The cast recently performed a preview performance at Riley Elementary School in Tallahassee and they gave away 30 free tickets to the kids as part of the Riley Museum after school program.
