ST. CLOUD, Fla. (AP) - Police in central Florida say a woman who was fatally shot by her mother after being mistaken for an intruder had been visiting for the holidays.
St. Cloud police Sgt. Denise Roberts said Wednesday that the mother fired a single shot after hearing someone enter her home late Tuesday. The person she shot was her 27-year-old daughter, who was visiting from North Carolina.
The daughter was taken to a hospital, where she died.
St. Cloud officials say the mother is a 911 dispatcher for Osceola County and her husband is a St. Cloud police corporal.
Detectives are investigating the case but say the mother's story matches the evidence so far.
