PARRISH, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a 12-year-old Florida boy was hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself in the head.
The Bradenton Herald reports that the shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon at a Parrish home. The boy was taken to a St. Petersburg hospital and remained in intensive care Thursday.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office says detectives are conducting a criminal investigation and a child protection investigation as they try to determine what led to the shooting. Officials say there’s no indication that it was intentional.
Records show the boy’s father has a felony drug conviction, meaning the revolver shouldn’t have been in the home. No new charges were immediately filed against the father.
