AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - An accrediting agency has recommended that Paine College in Augusta lose its accreditation after the college failed to meet standards for financial resources.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges said Thursday that the university did not satisfy three areas of deficiency including financial resources and stability, financial stability and control of sponsored research and external funds.
The Augusta Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1YuFgiA ) reports that the university was placed on probation in 2014 when the agency found that it hadn't met standards in 10 areas. The probation continued in 2015 after the agency found the university still didn't satisfy four areas.
Schools that lose accreditation don't qualify for the U.S. Department of Education's federal Title IX program and other federal funding.
SACSCOC spokeswoman Dr. Pamela Cravey says the agency's decision can be appealed.
