TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--His name is Ernie Andrus. He's 92 years old. He's been traveling on foot from the west coast to the east coast, for more than two years.

Not long after he turned 90, Ernie touched the Pacific Ocean near San Diego in October 2013. His goal is to touch the Atlantic Ocean near Brunswick, Georgia.

On Monday morning, he made his way to our region, surrounded by a number of supporters.

We caught up with Ernie as he traveled six miles from Gadsden to Leon County.

"Even though it's a very slow pace, it's what I've always done all my life," said Andrus. "So, I just keep running, and then I just keep going. When I stop at the finish line, I got to grab a hold of somebody."

Ernie says he's making this cross-country trip to raise money for the LST 325 Ship Memorial.

That kind of ship was built during World War II. The goal is to send that ship across the Atlantic to Normandy, France, the site of D-Day.
