TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A 19-year-old UPS employee is facing felony charges after it was discovered he was systematically stealing electronics from his job to sell on eBay.

Nicholas R. Ocampo, 19, was arrested on a charge of fraudulently obtaining property worth less than $20,000 and booked into the Leon County Detention Center on Thursday. He was released later that day on a $1,000 bond.

On April 25, 2018, a UPS loss prevention officer said he discovered Ocampo had made labels addressed to himself at his home address and placed the labels on packages at the warehouse, according to a probable cause affidavit. The packages were to be delivered to customers.

Ocampo was accused of fraudulently putting labels addressed to himself on nine packages from Feb. 2, through March 6.

The UPS loss prevention officer said Ocampo set up a UPS shipping account with his name as shipper and receiver and charged the cost of the shipping the stolen packages to that account.

Ocampo admitted that on multiple occasions he printed labels at home, placed the labels on boxes at the UPS facility and had the delivered to his home, the UPS investigator said.

Ocampo said he sold the stolen cellphones, laptops and computers for a total of about $3,000 to $4,000 on eBay. The exact value of the items Ocampo stole is unknown.

"It is believed that Ocampo participated in a systematic ongoing scheme to defraud UPS and obtain property having an aggregated value of less than $20,000," the court document said.
