DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) - A Florida Panhandle man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a drunken driving crash that killed one woman and injured two other people.
A Walton County judge sentenced 21-year-old Ian Carlo Lara on Tuesday. The Northwest Florida Daily News (http://goo.gl/CLtKTY ) reports that he had pleaded no contest to DUI manslaughter and four other charges.
Authorities say Lara was speeding on U.S. Highway 98 in January when he crashed into an SUV at an intersection. The impact caused the SUV to overturn and crash into another car. A passenger in the SUV, Mary Jane Rayon, died at the scene. The SUV's driver and a passenger in Lara's car were both injured.
Tests determined Lara's blood alcohol level was 0.169 percent. Florida law considers a driver impaired at 0.08 percent.
