TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A long standing dorm at Florida State University was demolished Friday.

According to university officials, they have big plans for the plot of land where "Smith Hall" used to stand.

They say that long range plans for the space is to create temporary parking and ultimately a few new sites for future science buildings, a realignment of chieftain way and utility improvements.

According to officials, the hall's features and design were outdated and no longer appealing to contemporary college students. WTXL was on campus today and spoke with a few students to get their perspective on the demolition:

"I'm glad they're going to. It was a pretty old building and its going to be cool to have new dorms or new classrooms what ever they decide to build there so I'm excited," said one student.

Florida State has been replacing its old dorm buildings to accommodate the needs of students, last year the school tore down Kellum Hall.
