WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - An 18-year-old is facing felony charges after admitting to posting a Snapchat video threatening Wakulla County Schools with an assault rifle.

Kane Watson was arrested on Monday.

According to the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office, Watson posted a video "deemed to be a threat" by Wakulla County Schools on Snapchat.

In the video, an unidentified subject can be seen opening a case containing an assault rifle. The video shows the rifle being removed from the case and loaded with a magazine.

The rifle is then picked up by the subject and a caption is displayed underneath that reads, “Don’t go to school.”

After receiving an anonymous complaint about it Monday afternoon, deputies quickly determined that Watson posted the Snapchat video.

When deputies went to Watson's Crawfordville residence, he admitted that he posted the video and voluntarily turned over his cellphone and the assault rifle. When interviewed, Watson stated he posted the video "as a means to deal with stress through humor."

Detectives charged Watson with violating the following Florida Statutes and booked him into the Wakulla County Jail:

  • F.S. 836.10, Written Threats to Kill or do Bodily Injury, a second degree felony.
  • F.S.790.163, False Report concerning planting a bomb, an explosive, or a weapon of mass destruction, or concerning the use of firearms in a violent manner, a second degree felony

As a follow-up, detectives have notified the North Florida Fusion eXchange, a collaborative effort between federal, state and local law enforcement agencies working in partnership to share resources, expertise and/or information to better identify, detect, prevent, apprehend, and respond to criminal and terrorist activity utilizing an “allcrimes/all-hazards” approach.
