TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Some Tallahassee businesses taking a financial blow after FSU's president John Thrasher imposed a suspension on all sororities and fraternities until further notice.

President Thrasher's ban on Greek gatherings and participation in Homecoming events is already affecting local Tallahassee businesses.

WTXL spoke to the owner of the Dogwood House, Patrick Strouss, who had 3 cancellation calls this Tuesday from sorority events. That's nearly $25,000 in lost revenue.

Since Strouss opened his business in 2007, it has been a popular venue for date functions and socials for Florida State students.

He says safety is a top priority. If there is a cash bar, everyone is ID'd and banded by Strouss's security.

"Our main goal is safety for the students. So, I think he did the only thing he really could do," said Strouss. "It was to come in and stop it and then get some controls in place."

Strouss says typically 500 students attend a social and fewer than 150 are of drinking age. He says he offers fun activities that tend to distract the students from drinking, including live music, a mechanical bull, bonfire and more.
