TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) -- Hurricane Cristobal is opening up and is on its track toward the north/northeast. It isn't forecast to strengthen much more as it continues to cross into colder waters and transition into an extra-tropical system. Still, the main threat associated with this system is the combination of its wind field and high pressure to the northwest that will push waves from the Atlantic all along the eastern seaboard. Rip current risks across the east coast will be higher until the hurricane escapes into the Northern Atlantic. Elsewhere across the Atlantic, there are two areas we are monitoring for future development through the week, though likely they will not become depressions. One is well off the coast of Africa while the other is a wave in the Gulf of Mexico. Still, they can play a part in our future weather, so we will continue to keep our eyes on them.
