TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - There is now a 60% chance of formation through the weekend that the low pressure system over the Bahamas will transition into a tropical or subtropical system. It continues to scoot to the north at 9 mph and will have limited local impacts, with just a few shower chances today for our eastern counties.
It is expected to continue to move northward at a steady pace and most computer model guidance pushes the system into the Carolinas by Friday evening or early Saturday.
Conditions will become more favorable for tropical development as the low pressure system drifts into an area of limited upper-level shearing.
The Hurricane Hunters were scheduled to fly into this storm cluster this afternoon, but that flight mission has been cancelled. The National Hurricane Center has not issued a statement on why it has been cancelled.
