MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Hurricane Leslie is meandering about 500 miles southeast of Bermuda in the central North Atlantic waters Wednesday afternoon. It will maintain its current strength before making a U-turn to the north and reaching a colder environment. The storm is projected to keep its distance from the island over the next several days.
A wave of moisture in the southwestern Caribbean is less organized and elongated as a result of stronger upper-level winds nearby. The sheared environment should continue for another couple of days, preventing the system from undergoing rapid strengthening for the time being. However, its persistence in a seasonably favored zone for tropical system formation warrants further monitoring of development trends. No direct local impacts from this disturbance are expected through the middle of next week.
