MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Hurricane Nicole has experienced a growth period, with highest winds reaching 100 mph as it approaches the island of Bermuda. A hurricane warning is in effect for the island nation as Nicole makes its closest approach to the island within the next 36 hours.
There are no other organized areas of disturbed weather in the tropical Atlantic basin. As the final weeks of the hurricane season occur now through November, the general focus for the points of origin of late-season systems shifts to the western Caribbean, southern Gulf of Mexico, and the far western Atlantic. Long-range modeling hints at the formation of a tropical low toward the end of the month in these favored regions, but it's impossible to predict this far ahead what effects, if any, a system would have on the local weather pattern.
