On this day in 1978 the Northeast was pounded by a strong and massive nor'easter. Cities were buried in snow. New York City received 18 inches, 16 inches fell in Philly and 14 inches in Baltimore. Some of the greatest amounts of snow totals could be seen in Boston, MA, where the area received 25-30 inches. They ended up dubbing it, "The Great New England Blizzard." Conditions were so bad, that the mayor banned travel in the city for an entire week.
