On this day in 1989 in Alaska, bitter cold air moved across the region. At McGrath, the temperature fell to 63 degrees below zero. A strong and powerful windchill made it feel even colder. In Alaska, between Fairbanks and Anchorage, there was a windchill reading of 120 degrees below zero at Cantwell.
