UPDATE: Tropical Storm Colin Forecast to Strengthen Slightly

Posted

MIDWAY, Fl. (WTXL) -- Tropical Storm Colin, as of the 8pm advisory, has winds sustained at 40 mph. The storm is forecast to strengthen slightly over the next 24 hours before it makes landfall, likely just east of Tallahassee. Late Monday night, the storm is expected to reach the eastern Big Bend with winds around 50 mph. Tuesday, the storm is expected to move away, with clearer skies likely Tuesday afternoon.

What is important here is that strong thunderstorms will be possible ahead of the storm center making landfall. There is a slight risk of severe weather for the Suwannee River Valley and a Marginal Risk along the western Big Bend. Isolated to scattered storms could produce severe level winds (60 mph+, small hail, and isolated tornadoes).

Coastal flooding is possible, as continuous onshore winds coupled with heavy rains can produce that hazard.

The situation is continuing to develop. As always, updates will be available on Facebook and Twitter.
