MIDWAY, Fl. (WTXL) -- Eyes are on a large area of thunderstorms in the western Caribbean Sea. The National Hurricane Center is giving this healthy tropical disturbance a 70% chance of developing into a tropical depression by Monday, with an 80% chance in the next 5 days. Due to a nearby cold front approaching Florida, its influence will curve the potential tropical storm toward the Florida peninsula, with forecast models hinting at a landfall east of the Big Bend. So far, the largest threat will be heavy rains across the state with minor coastal flooding along the Gulf coast of Florida (including the Big Bend).
Stay tuned for more information as the system progresses closer.
