MIDWAY, Fl. (WTXL) -- There are three areas of interest in the Tropics, including Tropical Storm Fiona.
First, Tropical Storm Fiona is maintaining winds at 45 mph over the open Atlantic. It is expected to weaken as it moves into unfavorable conditions with drier air and strong upper level winds. Fiona is expected to weaken to a tropical depression by later this weekend.
In addition to Fiona, there are two separate areas of interest over the eastern Atlantic. One to the southwest of the Cape Verde islands has a 50% chance of developing within the next five days as it is forecast to stay on a westward track toward the Lesser Antilles.
Behind that disturbance, over Africa, another area has a 30% chance of developing in five days after it moves over the open Atlantic waters.
