TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) -- Hurricane Earl has maximum sustained winds at 80 mph and is continuing to move west at 14 mph. Earl will weaken as it moves through the Yucatan peninsula and is not expected to gain any more strength. This system is expected to become a remnant low before dissipating over the mountains in south-central Mexico throughout the weekend if not sooner. The biggest threat from Earl is the rainfall, with some areas in the Yucatan with forecast totals of 18 inches.
