UPDATE: Hurricane Alex is First January-born Hurricane since 1930s

MIDWAY, Fl. (WTXL) -- The first January born hurricane since 1938; that is Hurricane Alex. While there have been hurricanes in January after that, Alex is the first storm to have a start so early in the year since then. Winds are sustained at 85 mph as of the 8pm advisory. The Azores are in line for potential impacts from Hurricane Alex. AFter the storm moves north of the region, it will turn into a non-tropical low and progress toward the Arctic.
