Update: East Coast Spared from Joaquin's Wrath

TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - Joaquin is an intense category 4 hurricane with winds of 130 mph. Fluctuations in intensity throughout the day are possible as it sits over the Bahamas.

It is drifting towards the northwest near 3 mph and throughout the day is expected to pick up the pace. As it continues to move away from the Bahamas overnight the path will be shifting to a more northeastern one and continue to increase in speed.

The northeast coast is no longer in the cone of uncertainty but the outer bands could still cause a lot of rain in some areas. An upper level system lingering along the eastern seaboard continues to push Joaquin farther to the east. That stalled out system is still the reason for the potential flooding on the eastern seaboard.

Meanwhile, there are numerous hurricane watches and warnings issued for parts of the Bahamas.
