TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - Despite the below average rainfall we've received for the month of December thus far, drought conditions have been lifted from our South Georgia communities. Officially at Tallahassee Regional Airport, we've received 0.09" of rain this month. That's over 2" below average.
However, because in October and November we received healthy amounts of rain, the moderate drought that was impacting portions of Seminole, Grady, and Thomas counties has been eliminated. (The moderate drought is indicated by the peach colors on the map.) Other areas, including several of our North Florida counties were under "abnormally dry conditions" last week. This is one level below the drought classification. (This is indicated in yellow on the map.)
The newest drought update issued by NOAA shows that the entire region is no longer experiencing drought-like or abnormally dry conditions.
Another few inches of rainfall is expected this weekend and during the holiday week, so expect us to remain out of the drought for some time.
