Severe weather is possible across the Big Bend and southern Georgia for Thursday. The NWS Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire ABC 27 viewing area under an enhanced risk.

For that reason, the First Alert Weather team is declaring a First Alert Weather Day for Thursday, April 23 ahead of the storms.

LATEST DISCUSSION:

TIMING:

The main threat will be late afternoon and early evening as a cold front passes through from west to east. A squall line will push in bringing the potential for widespread damaging winds, embedded tornadoes, small hail, and locally heavy rain.

This line of storms will clear out late Thursday night, and rain will linger into the early Friday morning hours.

BIGGEST THREATS:

All modes of severe weather will be possible Thursday. You should expect the potential for damaging wind gusts, small hail, locally heavy rainfall (1-3" area-wide), and a few tornadoes. Some tornadoes could be strong.
