TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - Tropical Storm Joaquin continues to drift westbound before it'll turn to the north and continue to strengthen. As of now, it is still only forecasted to maintain its tropical storm status. By late this weekend, the cone of uncertainty does include the Mid-Atlantic states, though it could stay offshore altogether. Either way, strong rip currents and rough seas are likely along the Atlantic shoreline.
Meanwhile, the wave impacting the Panhandle will likely not form into a tropical system.
However, a new wave in the open Atlantic east of Joaquin now has a 30% chance of formation through the weekend.
