Most of the Atlantic Basin is quiet, due to an area of high pressure preventing strong storm development. There is an area of low pressure just off the coast of Africa that has become a focus of the National Hurricane Center. The cluster of showers and thunderstorms are moving to the west-northwest at 15 to 20 miles per hour. The storms are becoming a bit more concentrated, but in the next couple of days, conditions will not be as favorable for development. There is 40% chance that the area of low pressure will develop into the tropical depression in the next 48 hours. It is too far to determine whether it will pose any sort of threat to the United States, and will continue to be monitored as it progresses across the Atlantic Ocean.
