TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) -- A strong tropical wave to the south of Jamaica is continuing to move west at 20 mph and has a 90% chance of cyclonic formation over the next few days. Even though 40 to 45 mph winds are being recorded the system seems to lack a closed surface circulation. Environmental conditions are favorable and it is likely a tropical storm will form later today. An Air Force Reserve Reconnaissance is scheduled to investigate the system later this morning. Even if this tropical wave doesn't form into a tropical storm it will still produce heavy rain and strong winds for Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
